I will take a wild guess that most of you know me personally to one degree or another, and therefore it is most likely that you know that I spent a few years as a collegiate athlete. I rowed both at Purdue and Iowa State, and even though I had a wonderful time and passed four years with the sport, there exist very few photos of me actually rowing. There is a very easy explanation for this: I was the team photographer.
Since I was also on the team, I didn’t get to take too many photos simply because I needed someone to fill in for me in the boat if I were to ride with the coach in his launch and take pictures of the team. On the handful of occasions when I got to do just that, I took some pictures that I still think look good.
Most of these were taken after my semester in Vienna, during which, as I said in that post, most of the pictures I took were mediocre. These photos were lucky enough to have interesting subjects and, thanks to natural lighting, could be shot with a faster shutter speed that captured the movement of the water and my teammates as they rowed.
Without further ado, I take you back to my days at Purdue with my friends on the Wabash.
